Training Your Eye: Balance in Movement

Create a Happier and Healthier Moving Horse from the Inside Out

Learn how to see, understand, and improve the balance of your horse with a whole-horse approach that considers movement, emotion, and the nervous system.

True Balance is the outward expression of inner congruence

It's time to stop looking at balance from a physical state of "correct" posture. In this self-study course, Amy helps you understand how balance is not just a "position" but a way of creating a better quality of life for your horse. This isn’t about learning quick fixes or rigid postures. It’s about learning how to view your horse with the right perspective, understanding that balance is a dynamic, evolving process—not a static look. This approach will help you develop a clear eye for what real balance and rhythm look and feel like. So that together, you can create real emotional and physical balance, giving your horse the confidence to move freely and you the clarity to guide them with purpose.

Dear Student of the Horse,

Throw a rock in any direction these days and you'll hit an instructor trying to help you understand your horse's biomechanics and how to ride "balanced."

The real problem with this well-intended information is that it doesn't take the whole horse into consideration. It often accounts for the horse's physical posture or position, but disregards the internal workings of the horse and the critical influence that they play on the horse's true ability to move in true balance.

This not only leads to misinformation that is half-baked, but is potentially harmful for both the horse and the rider.

That's why I have created this course, Training Your Eye: Balance in Movement. Through this course, you’ll learn to recognize what true balance looks like for your horse and how to support them in achieving it—

through movement that’s fluid, natural, and aligned with their inner state.

This is a logical, progressive approach to observing balance—one that recognizes the importance of your horse’s emotional and nervous system, and the deep connection between their body, mind, and movement.

This self-study course will challenge you to think differently, to open your eyes to the subtle dynamics of movement and posture, and to trust your own ability to see what’s happening. Most importantly, it will empower you to make the changes that will lead to real improvement for your horse mentally, physically, and emotionally.

If you’re ready to dig deeper, if you’re ready to do the work, and if you’re committed to truly understanding movement and balance, then I look forward to seeing you in the course.

Amy’s course Training Your Eye: Balance in Movement is a great course to help you better understand the movements you see in your horse. These movements affect every interaction with your horse, whether you're handling them for day to day care or riding/training. The information taught in the course will improve every interaction with your horse and will improve whatever riding discipline you practice. In the course, Amy uses lines to draw over the photos and videos to better illustrate what we need to look for in our horses’ bodies. This method is very helpful to train our eye to notice how the horse is holding itself. I found it particularly helpful that she uses this tool both on still photos and in videos. She uses various horses to demonstrate the lessons. Every horse is built different, and different colors and texture of coats can affect how we see them and their movements. By using various horses, Amy is helping us to better translate what we learn in the course to our own horses. Amy breaks the information down into easily digestible parts. The videos are short and concise, and the information is presented very clearly. The course presents information that is foundational to understanding horses and working with them in a productive way that encourages partnership between you and your horse. This was an easy course to take and I was able to immediately apply it to my own horses and quickly see results. Amy is a knowledgeable horsewoman and a skilled, caring teacher. I very much enjoyed the course and look forward to learning more from Amy in the future.
