Riding in Rhythm 1.5 - The Next Steps

Take Your Riding in Rhythm, Balance, and Alignment to the Next Level

This course is for Riders Who Have Completed Riding in Rhythm 1 who are ready to refine your skills, build your horse's straightness and softness, and prepare for more advanced work in Riding in Rhythm 2.

Ready to Build on the Skills You Developed in Rhythm in Riding 1?

You’ve already laid the foundation in Riding in Rhythm 1, but something’s still missing—maybe you’re feeling a bit unsure of how to make the next leap. You want to feel more connected to your horse, to move with fluidity and ease, but there’s still that gap between what you know and what you want to experience. You’re ready for more clarity, more confidence, and a deeper understanding of how to guide your horse through each stride with balance and purpose. If this speaks to you, Riding in Rhythm 1.5 is exactly what you need to bridge that gap and move forward with true connection.

Dear Student of the Horse,

There’s no shortage of advice about balance, but much of it misses the mark. It focuses on how things look, not how they feel—for both you and your horse.

That’s why I created Riding in Rhythm 1.5. If you’ve finished Riding in Rhythm 1 and still feel like something’s missing—like you can’t quite connect the dots—this course is for you. It’s designed to fill in the gaps, clarifying the details you need to move forward with confidence and clarity.

In Riding in Rhythm 1.5, we’ll build on your existing foundation, diving deeper into understanding how your body interacts with your horse’s, and how to use your aids with more precision. Through clear exercises, you’ll refine your in-hand and lunging skills, creating a seamless transition to better balance and softness under saddle.

By the end of the course, you’ll feel more confident in your aids, and your horse will be straighter, softer, and more responsive. You’ll both be ready to move forward with true rhythm and suppleness, setting the stage for even more advanced work.

If you’re ready for more than “good enough,” if you’re ready for a deeper connection with your horse, then Riding in Rhythm 1.5 is the next step in your journey. I look forward to seeing you in the course.

Amy Skinner

Amy’s riding course was a game-changer for me. In the first week, her unique coaching style and guidance led me to make some minor tweaks that led to big changes. I saw improvement in my seat and I started TO FEEL my horse. A few adjustments to my body posture quickly meant a better connection with my horse. It is her direct and kind approach that made me brave enough to video myself and benefit from her critique. The welcoming environment of the group and the focus on learning while encouraging each other only added to the depth of the course. I learned a ton from Riding in Rhythm and I had lots of fun. I left behind unwanted old habits for better and more useful ones. -

What you'll learn inside this course:

Step 1:

Mastering the Internal Half Halt

Amy will guide you through the Internal Half Halt, a powerful tool that improves your balance and prepares both you and your horse for more clear communication. By learning how to adjust your body with intention—lifting the sternum, lengthening the thigh, and creating a balanced position—you’ll learn how to offer clearer cues to your horse and support their movement with precision.

The results you will achieve:

You will gain a clearer understanding of how to engage your body to help your horse find more balance, straightness, and responsiveness. This will increase your ability to ride with softness and confidence, setting the stage for a more connected, rhythmic partnership.

Step 2:

Demystifying Corners

You’ll learn how to navigate corners with precision and balance by using your outside aids effectively. The focus is on teaching your horse to stay straight and resist the temptation to fall through the turns causing imbalance.

The results you will achieve:

You will understand how to maintain your horse’s rhythm and tempo through corners without over-aiding, and ensure your horse stays straight after the turn. Your horse will develop better balance, responsiveness, and alignment, making future movements like lateral work and canter transitions smoother and more precise.

Step 3:

Understanding and Applying Relative Straightness

In this final step, Amy will introduce the concept of relative straightness and teach you how to align your horse’s body through your seat, not by pulling their head. You’ll learn how to guide your horse to a place of stability, straightness, and soft connection by using your body and managing contact effectively.

The results you will achieve:

You will develop the ability to use your seat and aids to guide your horse into greater alignment and balance, without tension or confusion. Your horse will become more centered, confident, and responsive, setting you both up for a deeper connection and a smoother, more rhythmic ride.

It sounds simple but this is a transformational course. I am addicted to doing on-line courses, about horses and other things. I find Amy Skinner's amongst the best out there. Here is why. She attends to the needs of the individual, has a sense of humour, endless patience and a capacity to make me feel, not only that I want to do better, but that I can with her guidance. The format goes fast, keeping you thinking, learning and submitting videos. You can submit as many short ones as you wish and then every week you have a group zoom call where Amy checks in re: the work of the previsous week, gives a presentation/talk on something relevant for the coming week and is willing at any point to answer questions: not just written ones. You can actually speak which means you have a real sense of building a relationship with Amy and the group that you are part of. The content of the course helps you so ride so that your own body is better attuned to your horses and enables you at some point to go a step further , by using your own body to help the horse become more balanced in different gaits, around corners, circles and in straight lines. Amy's ability to see how the human body and horse's body interact is quite extraordinary; the forces, the pushes and the pulls and how they impact each other. .My seat feels quite deconstructed and that is ok. Amy's focus is so clearly good for the horse that I never need or want to resist her input. I have learnt a lot on this course and really enjoy that I have so much more to learn too. Roll on riding 1.5 and riding 2.
